As you may have heard AI is a rather large point of contention, especially, within the Care sector, and even Inspectors have began to notice the impact of AI throughout their Inspections. A number of Care Staff have turned to using AI sources, such as ChatGPT to help them writing daily notes and care plans: this may be because, English isn’t their first language, or simply they do not have the time because, providing person-centred care is far more important. But are these tools what we should be using? Is using ChatGPT the right thing?

Such applications are not designed to be used within the Care Sector, because they are not built around those that we support, and this can lead to daily notes and care plans not reflecting the reality of those you care for. Care Plans and daily notes should capture the personality, history, and preferences of those you support. These details require human understanding, emotional awareness, and contextual understanding that AI cannot replicate. The use of ChatGPT and other such platforms can lead to daily notes being at risk of sounding formulaic, repetitive or ‘all the same’, missing the nuance that defines person-centred care. In addition, personal information and sensitive health information could be at risk being released during a data leak, and this strongly compromises confidentiality and the rules set in place for those we care for.

CQC want Care Plans that are person-centred and tailored to each individual that we care for, and so should we. But in reality, many Carers simply do not have the time, because providing person-centred care in a meaningful way, takes time and care never stops. You can’t just turn it off to write up detailed notes, Managers cannot possibly learn every nuanced detail about their Residents. Solutions need to be put in place, so that we can focus on care, rather than spending hours writing the perfect care plan. Unfortunately, this pressure has led many Care Staff to turn to ChatGPT and alternative AI sources for help.

AI should serve as an enabler for carers to have more time for human connection, so that we can make better decisions. However, there is an overwhelming fear around AI and how it may take over or even result in people not receiving appropriate support. That’s why it’s crucial that any AI tool built for the purpose of Care should be designed by those who not only understand Care but live and breathe it every day: with Carers themselves at the forefront of development, and those we support being kept in mind at all times. AI in care needs to be purposefully built, because, the care sector is not just about providing care, but it’s about genuinely loving, caring, and making some of the most difficult moments, worthwhile and meaningful. While applications such as ChatGPT can be helpful initially, in reality, it goes against what the Care sector truly stands for: and that’s protecting those who may be vulnerable or living with conditions that alter their life. By entering the personal details and even day to day life of those we care for onto alternative AI platforms, we are going against what Care is all about: and that is endangering the personal details of those we are meant to be protecting. We question why CQC may have an issue with these tools, but should we not be questioning that ourselves? Most of us wouldn’t be happy if we heard that our Parents personal information was put into ChatGPT and possibly leaked during a data breach.

At Care Vision AI, we recognised these issues not just within our own Care Homes, but also those across the country. We wanted to create an AI which was able to truly benefit Carers daily, without compromising the security of those we care for. By putting real carers at the forefront of development, we can ensure that daily notes and care plans generated by AI are reflective of the real people we support every day, and that they can receive the care they deserve, all while also giving time back to carers, so that they can spend more time with their Residents. The people that we support deserve safety not just in the spaces that we care for them, but also online and within the systems that we utilise to increase and improve the quality of care.

Our AI tool has been developed from the feedback of real Care Teams, who felt that admin work took valuable time away from those they support. By using cutting-edge technology, we are working to remove those barriers. The AI tool that we have developed, allows for the creation of predictive analytics, so that you can identify potential risks or changes in a resident’s condition, enabling timely and informed intervention. Care Vision AI can also build your Care Plans and provide enhanced levels of detail to your daily notes. By reducing manual workload, Care Vision AI enables Carers to focus on meaningful human interactions, whilst ensuring care documentation is accurate, consistent, and instantly available. So that you can present high quality Care Plans and Daily Notes to CQC Inspectors – meet CQC requirements and never have to deal with notes looking the same again – and stay within one system: rather than switching between different systems and from another AI tool back to another system.

This isn’t just about technology; it’s about building solutions which support those delivering care every day.
