CARE WORKERS’ CHARITY EMERGENCY CORONAVIRUS FUND RECEIVES HUGE CASH DONATION TO SUPPORT CARE WORKERS IN NEED

The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust donate a life changing £250,000 to the Care Workers’ Charity Emergency Coronavirus Fund to help care workers in need.

The significant donation was bestowed to the charity at just the right time after it announced it was quickly running out of funds due to the sheer demand of applications for grants.

Having already donated £200,000 in just two weeks, more than the total grants issued in the whole of 2019, the generous donation from The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust will provide 500 emergency grants of 500 pounds each to care workers who are facing financial hardship due to self isolating.

Karolina Gerlich, Executive Director at the Care Workers’ Charity says: “Care workers are on the frontline of the COVID-19 crisis delivering the best care they can in these difficult circumstances, often making many personal sacrifices. They are putting their health and lives at risk and many have had to shield or self-isolate because of it or have had the virus themselves. The Care Workers’ Charity thinks that it is essential that we support care workers more than ever in this difficult time and ensure that they do not go hungry or unable to pay their bills because of following the official guidelines.

“This grant will enable us to deliver five hundred grants to care workers in financial crisis. We are very grateful for the support from The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust and recognition of the amazing work that care workers do every day.”

Julia and Hans Rausing commented: “This continues to be an extremely difficult time for people across the UK in a variety of tough and challenging circumstances. We have been awestruck by the generosity of people in the UK, whether that be through volunteering in the NHS, delivering food parcels to vulnerable people unable to go outside or those donating to charities doing admirable work.

“There are a great number of charities doing vital work, and we hope these donations enable them to help as many vulnerable people as possible who have been impacted by the crisis”.

The Coronavirus Fund is an emergency grant programme specifically designed to help those carers in need due to the virus. It is anticipated the Fund will receive a large number of applications for help in the coming weeks and require extra funds to help with the increased demand. Any help you can give will go a long way. This is not going to be an easy journey, but together we can make it.
