What went on at Care Roadshow Glasgow 2015?

Care Roadshow Glasgow 2015 took place at Hampden Park Stadium on 21 April. The show hosted a range of exhibitors supplying products and services for the care sector, the full list of exhibitors can be found below.

Alongside the exhibition, visitors also attended a variety of seminars and workshops including interactive plate presentation demonstrations from apetito and updates and information from key industry professionals, full details of the seminar and workshop programme can also be found below.

Dignity and Respect

Mary Hattie, Nursing Officer, Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland

The Commission published its Dignity and Respect Report last year, looking at the impact of the Scottish Dementia Standards on the delivery of care for individuals who are in the later stages of their dementia journey. The findings and recommendations it contains are relevant to all settings providing care for individuals with dementia.

In this session we will discuss our findings with a focus on:

• Person centred care planning and the importance of life histories
• Activities (A meaningful day)
• Management of Stress and Distress
• Use of psychoactive medication

Highlighting good practice and some common areas of concern.

The population is ageing. In the future more people are likely to have complex needs and live with multiple conditions. Nursing needs to be prepared for these changes.

As the voice of nursing, RCN Scotland is very active in shaping the future of the care home sector. In this seminar we will explore the future opportunities and challenges for nursing in delivering safe and effective care in care homes.

Sector reform, recruitment, retention and professional development needs will all be explored and people will have their chance to voice their views on how we develop a care home sector that is fit for the future.

The Importance of the Environment in Providing the Best Care and Support

The environment has a significant role in quality of life and wellbeing for people with dementia. Making the environment as enabling as possible is a vital part of providing the best care. This session will give an overview of the effects that good and poor design can have and why it is essential for us all to consider the environment in the care and support we provide. The session will identify some key design features that are important in creating positive environments. Delegates will be inspired to find out more via a variety of resources and services.

Understanding SOFI (Short Observational Framework for Inspection)

Participants will hear about how SOFI can be used to capture the experiences of people who use care services that are unable to provide feedback due to their cognitive or communication impairments. This session will help you recognise how SOFI helps the Care Inspectorate assess and understand whether people who use services are receiving good quality person centred care.
